First established by the progression of the Missouri, Kansas, Texas Railroad all the way back in 1872, Checotah has progressed through the decades into a quaint rural town just outside of the Tulsa area. Checotah resides in the heart of McIntosh County, Oklahoma, and his home to just over 3,000 residents. The city was originally named after the first chief of the Creek Nation, Samuel Checote, who was elected just after the Civil War. In fact the city was even home to a Civil War battle site. The city has long had the self given title The Gem of the Prairie and now proudly claims the title Steer Wrestling capital of the World!
